Description
Liguria is a place highly suited to the cultivation of Vermentino , which is why Podere Grecale wanted to invest in this vine : because it is loved and because it wanted to develop all its potential.
The color of the Maèn is straw yellow. The nose is complex and fine, with hints of ripe and dried fruit, some floral hints, aromatic herbs and light tertiary aromas. In the mouth it has a savory entrance and a structured and complex return.
Why you should drink it
When Francesca Michielin wrote "I don't live by the sea, but I can imagine it" in our opinion she was actually drinking a bottle of Maèn Vermentino Superiore .
And no, we're not kidding: Maèn in Ligurian dialect means marine, and the names here are not given at random! In fact, its grapes come from the vineyard closest to the sea, where while you work there is the background of the waves breaking and the scent of salt hovers in the air.
When does a wine like this happen to you?
When to uncork it
This is that wine that you must have at home when in doubt! Do you know why?
Because sooner or later you will happen to organize the dinner, whether you are the guest or you are the one to invite, in which oysters and seafood, raw tuna tartare, fish and well-seasoned white meats will be served on the table. All special things and a more unique than rare occasion.
Here, when that day comes, if you have Maèn Vermentino Superiore at home, you will have won the jackpot.
How to drink it
To best enjoy this wine, drink it at 12-14 ° C.
Vinification and Aging
The grapes are harvested early in the morning in 15 kg crates. Fermentation takes place with part of the skins for a short period, at a controlled temperature in steel. The aging on the lees is at least 11 months in steel, with a very small part in wood. Before being released on the market, the refinement continues for at least 4 months in the bottle.
Territory
The Vermentino grapes from which Maèn is produced are selected exclusively from the Madonna della Guardia vineyard, in Western Liguria.
Soil
The soil is clayey limestone and the exposure is between south and south east.
