Description

Donnafugata's "Ben Ryé" is undoubtedly one of the most famous Sicilian passito wines in Italy and in the world , its name means "daughter of the wind" in Arabic, an epithet attributed to this Mediterranean island, hit by winds that blow on the grapes of grapes and on the crops, bringing with it intense and very characteristic aromas .

The Passito di Pantelleria “Ben Ryé” is made from 100% Zibibbo grapes which come from 11 districts of the island of Pantelleria : each of these is characterized by a different microclimate and produces grapes with unique characteristics.

On the nose it releases the very rich notes of apricot, peach, dried figs and honey, as well as the remarkable structure and complexity that enchant the palate : a light and harmonious fusion of sweetness, softness and flavor.

Why you should drink it

Simple , this is the very synonym of Passito di Pantelleria, a sweet nectar that expresses all the strength and energy of the two protagonists of Pantelleria: the sun and the wind that blows on the Zibibbo bunches.

A wine born from the age-old production wisdom of man, an extraordinary passito wine that anyone should try.

When to uncork it

This is the meditation wine par excellence , to be paired with rich Sicilian pastries or caramelized duck and blue or very mature cheeses .

It is also the ideal companion for a romantic evening or for an elegant moment spent reading a book or listening to good music.

How to drink it

It has great longevity but is perfect to drink immediately, in any case serve it chilled , but not too cold, at a temperature of 10°-12°C .

Vinification and refinement

Natural drying on racks in the sun for 3-4 weeks starting from mid-August, in September a second harvest is carried out in the less precocious areas and the berries of the dried bunches destemmed by hand are immersed in the fresh must of these grapes. During the fermentation period, which ends in November, the maceration of the sugar-laden skins gives the product structure, complexity, color and a fabulous aromatic exuberance .

Territory

We are in south-western Sicily , between 200 and 400 meters above the sea, where the climate is mild , with strong day-night temperature variations .

Soil

The soils are clayey , rich in nutritional elements such as potassium , magnesium , calcium , iron , manganese , zinc .
