Gewurtztraminer

Gewürztraminer is a South Tyrolean white wine whose name means "Spiced Traminer", a name that confirms both the aromatic characteristics of this wine (Gewürz means spicy, fragrant), and its origin from Termeno (Traminer in German), in Alto Adige. In reality, the origin of Gewürztraminer is extremely dubious, because France too claims its paternity, citing similarities with Savagnin, a Jura grape with which vin jaune is produced.

It is obtained from an aromatic vine that is difficult to cultivate because few disturbing elements are enough to compromise its yield, it is found above all in Northern Italy, between Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in a mountain landscape dominated by clayey and calcareous soils particularly suitable for the production of these grapes, it is vinified alone or together with other vines giving rise to some of the most prestigious Italian DOCs such as "Trentino Doc", "Friuli Grave Doc", "Colli Orientali del Friuli Doc", "Friuli Isonzo, or Isonzo del Friuli Doc" and "Alto Adige Doc".
