Barolo

Barolo is an Italian DOCG red wine (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) produced in some municipalities of Piedmont .

The area of origin of Barolo includes the territories of the municipalities of Barolo , Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Roddi, Verduno, Cherasco, Diano d'Alba, Novello and Grinzane Cavour , often identified as " Territories of the Langhe ".

Barolo DOCG wine is produced exclusively with pure Nebbiolo vines.

Nebbiolo has been cultivated in the Barolo area since time immemorial, but it is thanks to the stubbornness of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour and Giulia Colbert Falletti , the last Marquise of Barolo , that an exceptionally rich and harmonious, destined to become the ambassador of Piedmont of the Savoy in the courts of all Europe. What made Barolo important was and is its structure that expresses a complex and enveloping bouquet, able to develop over time without losing its organoleptic characteristics.

Barolo is often referred to as "The king of wines" represents one of the Italian excellences in the art of producing universally recognized iconic wines!

Disciplinary of Barolo

The environmental and cultivation conditions of the vineyards destined for the production of the controlled and guaranteed denomination Barolo wines must be the traditional ones of the area and in any case, capable of giving the grapes and the resulting wine the specific quality characteristics. In particular, the cultivation conditions of the vineyards must meet the requirements set out in the following points:

soils : clayey, calcareous and their possible combinations

location : exclusively hilly; the soils of the valley floor, humid, flat and not sufficiently sunny are to be categorically excluded

Altitude : not lower than 170 meters above sea level and not higher than 540 meters above sea level

exposure : suitable to ensure a suitable maturation and to give the grapes and the resulting wine the specific quality characteristics, but with the exclusion for new plants, of the north side from -45 ° to + 45 °

plant density : those generally used according to the peculiar characteristics of the grapes and the wine

the vineyards subject to new registration or replanting must be composed of a number of vines per hectare, calculated on the sixth of the plant, not less than 3,500

training systems and pruning systems : traditional ones (training system: espalier; pruning system: Guyot)

any forcing is prohibited

The maximum yields of grapes per hectare of vineyard in specialized cultivation for the production of controlled and guaranteed denomination wines Barolo, Barolo Riserva and the minimum natural alcoholic strength by volume of the relative grapes destined for vinification must be the following respectively:

Wine - Grape yield q / ha - Alcoholic strength vol. min. natural

Barolo - 80 - 12.50% vol

Barolo Riserva - 80 - 12.50% vol

Aging of Barolo

Barolo : 38 months of which at least 18 in wood starting from November 1st of the year of harvesting of the grapes

Barolo Riserva : 62 months of which at least 18 in wood starting from November 1st of the year of harvesting of the grapes
