S for SYRAH, discovering the HISTORIC AND VERSATILE VARIETY!
If you had to think of a red grape variety that reflects the terroir, what would come to mind?
Today we discover Syrah , also known as Shiraz, a red grape variety that has earned a place of honor in the world wine scene for its remarkable versatility which has allowed it to thrive throughout the world, offering a variety of unique expressions .
The origins of Syrah are a mixture of myth and reality, some place it in ancient Persia, in the city of Shiraz, or even in Sicily linked to the city of Syracuse, however research has revealed that Syrah is the cross between two French vines , the Mondeuse Blanche and the Mondeza.
In Italy Syrah has found a second home, in fact it is very widespread in Sicily where the warm Mediterranean climate allows Syrah to develop and produce wines of great structure and elegance, but we also find it in Tuscany where it shows itself with a refined and contemporary interpretation
Do you want to try Syrah-based wines right away? => CLICK HERE and order your favorite bottles!
But what are the best expressions of this vine in Italy?
The first traces of Syrah in Italy date back to 1828, over the years this vine has acquired an important role especially in Tuscany where it has been used to improve Chianti.
Tuscan Syrahs stand out for their deep fruity notes and an elegant flavor structure, an example of this is one of my favorite wines, a Syrah with a refined character and a heavenly sip.
Tenuta Lenzini's Sirah is more than a wine: it is a Tuscan homage to one of the most eclectic and fascinating vines in the wine world, this wine celebrates not only the versatility of Syrah, but also its intrinsically feminine nature, underlining its delicacy and complexity that this vine is able to express.
Coming from the Gragnano vineyards of Tenuta Lenzini, we can define this bottle as the company's pearl, dedicating approximately two years of aging in wood, this wine evolves, acquiring aromas of extraordinary depth and variety.
In the mouth, La Sirah by Tenuta Lenzini reveals itself to be an exuberant and dynamic wine, a powerful freshness but balanced by a measured tannicity, creating a balance that is as bold as it is refined.
This is a splendid example of how the Syrah vine can be interpreted and enhanced in Tuscany, where everyone can make their own mark thanks to the enormous versatility of the vine, in fact this is a wine that speaks of the land from which it comes and of the innovation of who created it, offering an experience that goes beyond taste.
Toscana Igt La Sirah - Lenzini
In the scorching sun of Sicily, each bottle of Syrah is a chapter in a larger story, a tale that speaks of adaptability and passion, the exploration of Syrah in Italy offers a journey that celebrates diversity and richness.
Syrah Terre Siciliane PGI by Orestiadi is the contemporary expression of Sicily, a wine in tribute to the vitality and richness of the Sicilian land, a bottle that represents the perfect balance between modernity and the winemaking history of the island.
The care and attention dedicated to the production of this Syrah begins already in the vineyard with the manual harvest, carried out at the end of August in the rolling hills of the Gibellina countryside, reflects the importance of an artisanal and respectful approach.
The vineyards, suited to the cultivation of international red grape varieties, are the beating heart of this wine, giving it unique and unmistakable characteristics.
Terre Siciliane Syrah Igp - Tenute Orestiadi
Syrah is also part of wines made from different grape varieties, especially in Tuscany, where it is used to give character and color to Poggio Al Tesoro's Toscana Igt Mediterra .
The idea came at the end of the 90s, when Marilisa and Walter Allegrini, renowned Venetian producers, decided to venture into the Bolgheri area where they gave life to their ambitious project, combining their experience with the new potential of Bolgheri.
The Mediterra from the Poggio al Tesoro winery is an example of how intuition and innovation can create extraordinary wines, a red that presents itself with its richness and complexity thanks to the fusion of Syrah with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Manual harvesting and careful selection give way to the birth not of a simple wine but to the celebration of the oenological art, a journey through the flavors and aromas that only Tuscany with its characterization of Syrah can provide.
The Mediterra of Poggio al Tesoro is a wine that enchants and tells, an invitation to discover the magic of a successful blend, which pays homage to the land from which it comes.
Toscana Igt Mediterra - Poggio Al Tesoro
In conclusion, Syrah is a grape variety that never ceases to surprise and fascinate also thanks to its French heart which it maintains in its Italian expressions.
A grape variety that continues to be a leading player in the global wine scene, loved for its robustness, its intense aromas and its ability to tell unique stories through each harvest.
