How does the wild character of Liguria translate into a wine?
Viticulture in this region is made of terraces exposed to salty winds, artisanal care and an indissoluble bond with the territory. Berry&Berry perfectly embodies this philosophy, with a production that is rooted in the Berriolo family's passion for viticulture.
The company is located in Balestrino, in the province of Savona, a village overlooking the sea where growing vines is a challenge as arduous as it is fascinating. Here, between dry stone walls and slopes exposed to the sun, wines with an authentic character are born, capable of expressing the strength and elegance of this land.
In the two hectares of vineyards, cultivated between Savona and Imperia, there is room for very rare native varieties, such as the ancient Barbarossa. Each vine is carefully followed, each bunch is the fruit of meticulous work that aims for excellence.
An example of this soul is Campolou by Berry&Berry , a Pigato that contains all the essence of Ligurian viticulture. Fresh, savoury and mineral, it is the perfect companion for those who want to savour a wine that smells of sea and land, enhancing the typical dishes of the local cuisine.
But what makes this company interesting in the wine scene?
The turning point came in 2010, when Alex Berriolo, representing the third generation, gave new life to the company, founding a modern winery. After completing his studies in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Turin, Alex decided to enhance the value of the family lands, combining tradition and innovation.
Today, Berry&Berry manages ten vineyards spread over two hectares between the provinces of Savona and Imperia. The varieties grown include vines such as Pigato, Vermentino, Sangiovese and Barbarossa. This diversity allows the vineyards to benefit from a unique microclimate, influenced by the proximity of the sea and the hilly conformation of the territory, giving the wines distinctive organoleptic characteristics.
The company stands out for its commitment to environmental sustainability, adopting ecological practices both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Ecosystem-friendly techniques are used, ensuring the highest quality of grapes, this approach reflects a deep responsibility towards the land and future generations.
Further momentum came in 2024, when the company became part of Peq Agri, an Italian agricultural company that aims to further enhance the Ligurian territory through the production of high-quality wines and the promotion of food and wine tours. Alex Berriolo will continue to lead the wine experimentation, helping to elevate the reputation of Ligurian viticulture.
Representative of this path is Campolou, a name not by chance, in Ligurian dialect, recalls the ancient countryside that dotted the hinterland, those handkerchiefs of land torn from the stony nature by the farmers. It is a name that encompasses the meaning of viticulture in Liguria: a patient work, where each row is a conquest.
Pouring it into the glass is like opening a window onto Liguria: the citrus notes intertwine with the Mediterranean ones, its minerality and freshness is an echo of the waves crashing on the coast. A wine to listen to, to savor slowly, perfect to accompany a dish with pesto or a grilled fish.
Berry&Berry's Campolou captures the breath of the Ligurian coast: a wine that does not seek to amaze with artifice, but to conquer with its candor, like the land from which it comes.
Pigato Campolou - Berry And Berry
Poggi del Santo by Berry&Berry comes from the vineyards located between Balestrino and Tovo San Giacomo, a red that captures the essence of the Ligurian hills.
The name derives from the toponym of the area where the vineyards are located: "Poggi" indicates the hills on which the vines climb, while "Santo" celebrates the goodness of the main grape variety used, Sangiovese.
Tasting this red means taking a journey through Liguria, discovering the flavors of a land rich in history and tradition. A liquid testimony of Berry&Berry's passion for viticulture and love for their land, offering those who taste it an authentic Ligurian experience.
It is the ideal companion to dishes such as grilled meats, stews and mature cheeses, enhancing every bite with its balanced structure and lingering finish.
Poggi Del Santo - Berry And Berry
LappazĂŒcche is a rosĂ© wine that embodies the soul of Liguria, produced with passion by Berry&Berry. It is born among the hilly vineyards of Balestrino and Pieve di Teco, territories influenced by the sea breeze and intense sun, ideal conditions to best express the character of the vine.
Its name is rooted in local tradition: in the past, the bohemians of Balestrino used to drink wine in ladles made from ornamental pumpkins. An ancient custom that today lives on in this rosé, an authentic expression of the territory and its culture.
Produced with a predominant percentage of Barbarossa (80%), an almost extinct native vine, and 20% of Ligurian red grapes, LappazĂŒcche is born from a vinification in steel that preserves the freshness and varietal expressiveness.
The rosé color introduces a delicate bouquet while in the mouth it is enveloping and mineral, with a lively acidity. A wine with a spectacular drinkability and a unique personality, perfect to accompany Ligurian cuisine and its Mediterranean flavors.
