Description

The Rolly Gassmann winery is based in the small village of Rorschwihr, in the northernmost part of the Upper Rhine Department in Alsace, France.

Today it is run by Marie-Thérèse, Louis and their son Pierre Gassmann: the wines they produce are Pinot Gris , Riesling and Gewurztraminer .

Riesling , a white grape variety from which a fruity and characterful wine is obtained, is presented in a light yellow glass, with an elegant bouquet of citrus fruits with mineral and floral notes on the nose and refined and delicately fruity in the mouth. Mineral and concentrated, with a long spicy finish.

Why you should drink it

Because you must know that Pierre Gassman, champion of biodynamic cultivation in Alsace, insists on late harvest and long aging and this Riesling is the perfect example.

It comes from a selection of grapes made by hand in several vineyards , located near the village of Rorschwihr and harvested at optimal ripeness: an almost maniacal care, definitely worth trying.

When to uncork it

This Riesling is an elegant and refined wine that absolutely should not be wasted!

Make sure you uncork it with some special people by your side: to really do it justice, organize a dinner with vegetable tempura, chicken skewers or vegetable lasagna ...

How to drink it

The best temperature for drinking Riesling varies between 6 ° and 8 ° C.

Vinification and Aging

This Riesling , harvested at optimal ripeness, comes from a selection made by hand. The grapes are brought to the cellar, delicately pressed and fermented in individual tanks with small additions of indigenous yeasts. Each vineyard has its own fermentation tank and is vinified separately. Once the fermentation is completed, usually after a couple of months, the wine is left to rest and then bottled within 11 months of the harvest . The bottles are then left to rest for a couple of years before being marketed.

Territory

The Rolly Gassmann vineyards are located in a valley nestled between the eastern side of the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine River, thus protected from the heavy rains that overlook the western side of the Vosges. Due to its geographical position, one might think that the climate in the Alsace region is relatively cold and humid, however, thanks to the protection from the Vosges, it is the driest region in France, with summers that are warmer than the national average.

Soil

The 50 hectares of vineyards of the Rolly Gassmann winery alternate in clay, sand, limestone and granite.
